After reading many reviews of other memory foam mattresses there seems to be a lot of variation in memory foam mattresses in consideration of many personal preferences too soft/too firm. I do not think this mattress is either too soft or too firm. When you initially lay on it the first impression is that maybe too firm however, after laying there for a minute and settle into the memory foam you feel very supported without any body pressure that irritates regular spots such as lower back and shoulders which were always main focal points of short comings of many matresses for myself. I have not quite owned this mattress for a month and already consider it to be one of the best purchases I have made in my lifetime. To me it is far-and-away the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. I love how it perfectly cradles my body and makes me feel like I sleeping on a cloud. My wife on the other-hand hates this mattress. This is not a good thing to have a husband and wife who has such dramatically opposite opinions of the mattress. In the end, a happy wife is more important than an awesome mattress, so I buckled and we regulated the Serta 10-inch gel foam mattress to a spare bedroom (although I still slept on it for two additional weeks!) A note on the attributes- - Very conforming to your body - to me this was perfect, but it caused my wife to wake-up with a sore back - Heat - memory mattresses have a bad reputation for retaining heat. First and foremost, I'm not a small guy. 6'2"-3", 250lbs. I do have some lower back pain so anything that can help alleviate the pain is always nice. When the mattress arrived in a cube I was a little concerned that it was going to be deformed and take weeks or months to "air out" and not be squished. To my surprise within a few seconds of breaking the vacuum sealed bag it came in, it was the full 10" thick queen size mattress! Not only that, virtually no smell at all! Way to go Serta! And to be brutally honest, I was actually afraid being the size that I am, that I would sink into this mattress like I did when I tried the other foam mattresses... but that wasn't the case. The multiple layers of different foams produces a firm and supportive cushion, something I have never experienced from the other foam mattresses that are available.
